THE new Commissioner of Police in Osun state, Faleye Sunday Olayele, has Expressed his readiness to protect life and property in the state, saying “uuder my watch, Osun State is going to be a no go area for criminals”.
Olaleye made this statement while addressing newsmen on his assumption of office at the Command’s Headquarters in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Monday.
The new police commissioner, who vowed to wage war against all form of crime and criminality in the state, warned criminals to leave the state, adding “else, you will meet your waterloo”.
He said, “I came fully prepared to serve the good people of Osun State, to ensure a secured state which will be an envy for other states to emulate. This I planned to achieve through hard work, discipline and incorruptible police force and in partnership with other sister security agencies, the people of the state and in fidelity with the right operational procedures.
“I shall lead by example and mobilise the entire officers and men of the Command to achieve effective crime control, limit civil disorder and protect life and property, which are the basic duties of the Police under Section 4 of the Police Act. I pledge my personal integrity and honour to provide level playing ground for all and sundry and hold out myself and the entire Command to public account.
“I pledge the readiness of the entire workforce of the Command to eschew corruption and corrupt practices and work towards making Osun State a better place to live and invest in, in line with the policy agenda of IGP for the entire country, and in particular the vision of Osun State.
“Every citizen and communities in the state will enjoy our improved services. However, all should be law abiding and respect the rule of law.
“My Policemen will be made more visible in the state through adequate protection of key and vulnerable points, intensive patrols of neighbourhoods, business districts, and roads; constant surveillance and regular raids of black-spots and criminal hideouts.
“The command will take the battle to the criminals – kidnappers, cultists, drug dealers, traffickers and indeed to their sponsors, procurers, counselors and accessories in and outside the State.
“Under my watch, Osun State is going to be a no go area for criminals as nowhere in the state will be conducive for them to operate. We are going to roll out all in our arsenal to wage war against all form of crime and criminality. Consequently, I am using this opportunity to declare Osun state a no go area for criminals. If you reside here , relocate, if you have been crossing into the state, desist. Else, you will meet your Waterloo.
“To the law abiding citizens of the state, be rest assured that your safety is guaranteed all the time as the command will do everything possible within the ambit of the law to protect you and your property. I am an operational CP, I will not just give order, but personally lead and coordinate operations.
“Let me use this medium to appeal to the good and law abiding citizens of the state, that security is a joint business, cooperate and join hands with the Police and other law enforcement agencies to protect your communities from the criminal minded person(s). Provide us with timely and actionable information at all times.
“I assure all the citizenry of my relentless commitment and sterner security mechanisms that will drive our agenda of a safer environment.
“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen of the press, I thank you for coming and I look forward to work with you to achieve these set goals,” Olaleye noted.
He, however, thanked the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, for the “rare privilege and opportunity afforded me to serve in this state”
The police commissioner also expressed his appreciation to Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, for “his warm reception, acceptance and advice despite the fact that he has not known me before .”
Olaleye further thanked the outgoing Osun State Commissioner of Police, who is now an Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Wale Olokode, saying, “I congratulate him for his promotion and achievements recorded during his tenure. It is my prayer that he will succeed in his new assignment.”
