Confusion in Osun As Newly Enthroned Monarch Barred From entering Palace

There was confusion in Osun State after a newly enthroned monarch was denied access to the palace.

According to VAM News, the state government recently appointed Prince Yinusa Akadiri as the new Akinrun of Ikirun in the Ifelodun Local Government Area (LGA).

Some residents, however, are said to have objected to Akadiri’s emergence as their new traditional leader.

Following the death of Oba Abdulrauf Adedeji in February, the state government appointedl Akadirin on November 19, 2021, with the unanimous consent of a majority of kingmakers.

However, following his announcement on Wednesday, some town youths thronged the road to protest his appointment. As a result of this development, the state government dispatched security personnel to the town.

According to reports made available to journalists on Sunday, the new monarch’s attempts to enter the palace were thwarted by enraged residents who placed charms on the entrance gate.

Sofiu Oladimeji, a resident, told Sunday Vanguard that the gate was locked from behind to prevent easy access for anyone, but he couldn’t say who ordered the gate to be locked.

According to the source, the development had prevented market women from opening shops because the market was deserted on Friday and early Saturday morning.

“The gate was locked because people are upset about the monarch, who was chosen by kingmakers and then appointed by the state government.” “I can’t say who told me the gate should be locked or charms placed on it,” Oladimeji said.

The Akinrun in Council, on the other hand, is said to have issued a statement urging calm.

“While we recognize that being dissatisfied when a particular expectation fails to materialize in one’s favor is not unusual, we believe that resorting to self-help as a means of settling scores is both avoidable and abhorrent.” On that note, we call for the promotion of the calmness, harmony, and tranquillity that wise and hardworking people are known for,” the statement said.
