The All Progressives Congress’s (APC) nominee for governor in Cross River, Bassey Otu, has been recognized by a federal high court sitting in Calabar as the legitimate party candidate.
On Monday, October 24, in a ruling in a lawsuit in Calabar, the capital of the Cross River state, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the court proclaimed him legitimate, according to a report from Channels Television.
In order to remove Otu from the APC’s list of candidates for governor in the 2023 election, Owan Enoh, a participant in the party’s primary in May, has filed a court petition.
The judge, however, said:
“That a candidate contesting for the position of the governor must be a Nigerian, meet the stipulated age requirement, and have basic qualifications according to the constitution.”
Ojukwu added that the decision of a governorship candidate of a political party is and still remains the political party’s right.
The judgment has put an end to the month-long rumors and dissension in the APC chapter in Cross River as the party gears up for the 2023 election campaigns.
