Osun: Dissolving Elected LG Officers An Impeachable Offence – Legal Practitioner Sends Strong Warning To Gov-elect, Adeleke

As Osun State Independent Electoral Commission( OSIEC) held council elections in the state across all local governments, a Legal Adviser to Osun APC, Adegoke Ogunsola has warned the Osun State Governor-elect, Senator Ademola Adeleke against being impeached when he is sworn in if he moved to dissolve the elected local government officers.

The lawyer said, no governor in Nigeria has the power to dissolve elected local government officers.

Voice Air Media gathered that only one party (All Progressives Congress, APC) participated in the October 15th, local government election organized in the state.

Adegoke Ogunsola, the chairmanship candidate for Irepodun Local Government who doubles as a legal Practitioner, while speaking with Journalists at the collation centre in Ilobu, Irepodun LG, maintained that local government is a level of government, not an appendage of state government.

According to Ogunsola ” Governor of a state does not have the power to dissolve any elected member unless the court gives that particular nod that for certain reasons the governor could go ahead to dissolve or in the alternative, the house of assembly is an arm of government that could also give a resolution that may lead to the dissolution of local government.”

Ogunsola noted that for any governor dissolve elected local government it is an impeachable offence

While responding to question on litigation filed by the Osun Peoples Democratic Party , PDP, against OSIEC on the legality of conducting the local government election, Ogunsola said as a law abiding citizen he would wait for the outcome of the case pending in Federal High Court of Osogbo.
