Osun: I was misquoted over Aree Stool’s Statement – IPA President, Wole Taiwo says

VOICE AIR MEDIA

The National President of Iree Progressive Association (IPA), Aare Engr. Wole Taiwo has reacted to a publication in one of the national dailies over the delay in installing the new Aree of Iree Kingdom.

The President, while speaking with correspondent said he was misquoted that he did not say that government should choose whoever they feel is competent and can run the town.

Taiwo said, “What I said was that I am employing the Osun State Government to expedite action for selection of candidate for the stool of Aree with the appropriate rules as tradition demands through the kingmakers IWAREFA MEFA of the town.”

The Aree stool became vacant in July 2018, after Oba Jimoh Olayoonu joined his ancestors but efforts to appoint a new monarch for the town have been unsuccessful.

However, on June 27th, 2022, his lordship, Justice S.O Falola gave a judgement that put a stop to the imbroglio surrounding the selection a new monarch.

Since June when the judgement has been given, one would have expected that both the State government and the kingmakers to expedite actions in making sure due process is followed in appointing the new Aree of Iree, unfortunately, letter that should emanate from the State government that will kick-start the process of appointing the new monarch was restrained from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for no reason.
