An 18-year-old boy identified as, Tope Momoh who strangled his mother to death for calling him a bastard, has been arraigned before an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court on a one count charge of murder.
Momoh reportedly admitted to killing his 52-year-old mother, Stella, two weeks after she was buried.
He committed the offence on the midnight of September 6, 2022 at Ikakumi Akoko, Ondo.
Testifying in court, the police prosecutor, Nelson Akintimehin informed the court that the cause of the woman’s death was unknown until her son confessed to be the killer.
Akintimehin said;
“Momoh in his confession, said he was forced to tell his relatives that he strangled his mother to death when she woke him up in the midnight, raining curses on him and calling him a bastard repeatedly.”
The offence according to the prosecutor, contravenes Section 319(1)of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. II Law of Ondo State, 2006.
Momoh who pleaded for mercy when allowed to speak, said;
“I did not have rest of mind since my mother has been buried. So, I was forced to confess that I strangled her to death. So, I want the court to show me mercy.”
His plea was not taken but the Presiding Magistrate, Musa Al-Yunnus, who ordered his remand at the Olokuta Correctional Centre.
Al-Yunnus adjourned the case to October 20, 2022. Continue READING…
