NANS Declares Nationwide Mass Action Against ASUU Strike

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has mapped out nationwide mass action against the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The National president, Usman Umar Barambu in a statement released on Tuesday, said the protests have been scheduled to begin from September 19 through to October 11, 2022.

Barambu further said that the protests will culminate in Abuja shutdown on a date to be communicated.

“I convey to you solidarity greetings from the Leadership of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), the Apex/umbrella body of all students both at home and in Diaspora which is also the largest students/youths advocacy platform in Africa with over 22 million Nigerian students voting population cut-across our campuses.

“You will agree with me that on the 14th day of February 2022, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) embarked on an indefinite warning strike which has led to various phases of striking activities for the past seven (7 months), due to ASUU and FG’s inability to resolve their issues.

“Hence, after proper consultations, I am directing all Zonal, JCC and SUG structures to align with the following schedule of events below:

Monday Zone D – 19th-20th Sept, 2022
2. Thursday Zone E – 22nd-23rd Sept, 2022

3. Monday Zone B – 26th-27th Sept, 2022

4. Thursday Zone A – 29th-30th Sept, 2022

5. Wednesday Zone F – 5th-6th October, 2022

6. Monday Zone C – 10th-11th October, 2022

7. National shutdown Abuja to be communicated after zone C.

“May I use this medium to commend Nigerian students for standing firm in solidarity.

“I am glad to inform you that we will remain resolute in making sure our demands are adhere to and in other for adequate co-ordination.

“I have directed the following national officers to oversee the peaceful conduct of the protest in the following respective zones in conjunction with the zonal and state structures as follows:

1. Zone D. Comr. Attah Felix Senate President

2. Zone E. Comr. Victor Ezenagu, VP National

Zone B. Comr. Usman Baba Kankia, Secretary General

Zone A. Comr. Babatunde Akinteye Afeez, VP External

Zone Comr. Sariki Sulieman. VP Special Duties

Zone C Comr. Vanesa Egbeahic, VP Intercampus
