Ondo: Deji of Akure Kingdom, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, has ordered markets the following markets in Akure(Oja Oba, Erekesan main market, Odopetu, Umesi, and Ijemikin markets) to be closed on Wednesday 7th September, 2022 in observance of the annual Amole Festival.
The festival is an age-long tradition where the Sipi traditionalists dance round Akure and its environs.
Any shop found open for business would be looted, which is why the festival is referred to as ‘Du du du’ meaning ‘take your own I take my own’.

CLOSURE OF MARKETS IN AKURE IN OBSERVERVANCE OF THE ANNUAL AMOLE FESTIVAL
The Palace wishes to notify the residents of Akure and its environ that in line with tradition and culture of the land, some selected Markets in Akure will be closed on Wednesday 7th September, 2022.
2. The closure becomes necessary as part of the requirement to observe the age long tradition of the annual Amole Festival.
3. In view of this, ONLY the listed markets which includes; Oja Oba – Erekesan main Market, Odopetu, Umesi and Ijemikin markets shall be closed in observance of the Amole Festival
4. There shall be NO closure of other Markets within Akure and its environs while shops and stalls will be equally opened for business
5. However, the festival will not in any way restrict both human and vehicular movement.
