An accident has occurred at the Building Materials Junction, Ogbunike, along the Onitsha-Awka Expressway, Anambra State, on Tuesday.
The crash, which occurred at about 12:50pm, involved a Mercedez Benz commercial truck with registration number ASB280ZH and belonging to Do Good transport company and am unidentified driver of Haojue motor bike (Private) with registration number QD618URU.
The rider of the motorcycle died in the accident, while the driver of the truck and two of his passengers ran away to avoid being lynched.
It was gathered that the probable cause of the accident was route violation.
According to eyewitness, the truck driver, who drove against traffic and hit the bike rider, crashed, abandoned his truck and ran away with two of his passengers in the truck.
The Federal Road Safety Corps personnel from the RS5.33, Nteje, took the dead victim to the Iyi-Enu Hospital in Ogidi where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty and the corpse deposited at same hospital mortuary.
The FRSC men on the ground managed the traffic caused by the crash and ensured the obstructions caused was cleared.
Confirming the accident, the state Sector Commander, Adeoye Irelewuyi, who attributed it to route violation, sent his condolences to the deceased family.
He warned motorists to desist from route violation as it’s amounts to dangerous driving.
“Motorcylist should avoid plying the expressway because they are not permitted by law to use the expressways,” he added. CONTINUE READING……………
