Independent Electoral Commission, LG Amendment Bills Signed Into Law In Osun

The State of Osun Local Government Area Creation and Administration Amendment No. 5 bill and the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission bill both passed the Osun State House of Assembly and were signed into law.

At today’s Plenary session of the state House of Assembly in Osogbo, the dual bill was approved into law.

In his remarks, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye, Speaker of the Parliament, praised the two bills as good ones for a better Osun state.

He supported the State House of Assembly’s decision in accordance with Section 7 of the revised Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He said that the state and local governments have returned to the presidential form of governance.

He said that “as of now, the local government administration in the state of Osun has returned to the presidential style of governance.”

He continued, “As another tier of government, the local government administration will operate under the presidential system.

The State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) would now have a legislation that will both direct and govern its conducts, the Speaker added.

Another development is that the state legislators today read the University of Ilesa Establishment Bill 2022 at the Plenary. The motion was made by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Maroof Olanrewaju, and seconded by the member of Iwo state constituency, Hon. Uzamot Adebayo.

The House of Assembly Committee on Public Account’s report, which questioned Ila Orangun of the Osun State College of Education over the state’s Auditor General’s indictment, was also endorsed by the state legislature at the same time.

You might remember that the State Auditor General indicted the State College of Education Ila Orangun on their January to December 2021 statement of accounts.
