Just In: Youths in Osogbo back Adeleke, vows to remove Gov. Oyetola

Many of the youths residing in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, have vowed to remove Governor Isiaka Oyetola by voting for Senator Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, in the July 16 governorship election in the state.

The youths who spoke with PM News in the Osogbo on Friday said Governor Oyetola has not done enough to prove he deserves a second term.

Bolaji Oyetunde, who claimed to be a Student of Osun State College of Technology, said “Governor Isiaka Oyetola does not deserve a second term, I’m sure you saw all the bad roads as you were traveling through the state. Very close to the election, we saw some contractors coming to do damage control but we are no longer fools. He is not a terrible governor but we deserve better.”

Another young man who simply identified himself as Adedeji also said: “I am voting for Imole (Sen. Ademola Adeleke), I came for Lagos to ensure that I vote for a change this time around. I am not proud of the state of things in Osun, by 8 pm the state is already in darkness. No street lights, No good roads, and the youths have to move out to get better opportunities. I thought the state would be better under Oyetola but I am not satisfied with his performance.”

Taiye, another young man who spoke with PM News along Gbongan/Osogbo road, said: “My vote is definitely for Ademola Adeleke, I have accessed Oyetola’s performance, and he did not do enough. He boasts of paying workers’ salaries as if that was the main purpose of his administration. We can no longer accept this we need good infrastructures, motorable roads, loans for the youths, accountability not just words with no proof to back it.”

Gbolahan Akande on his part said: “Don’t be carried away by the crowd you saw at the APC Mega rally, I cannot say if it is rented or not but I can assure you that Ademola Adeleke will win because Oyetola did not perform well. We want a governor that can do more than pay workers’ salaries. For me and my brothers, we will not vote Oyetola, it is not about politics, am not a member of APC or PDP but I want me and my family to try Adeleke and see if he can perform.”

However, a young lady who simply identified herself as Esther said she is yet to decide but she was not happy with the state of roads and job opportunities in Osun.

Esther said: “I am yet to decide.”

When asked if she is satisfied with Oyetola’s administration, she said: “Not really, look around and it will be hard to point to any good development, you will still see bad roads right here in Osogbo especially when you go into towns, don’t be deceived by what you see around the Governor’s office, go to the rural areas and you may regret coming to Osun.”

Olatunji, a receptionist at a hotel in Osogbo, said: “I am voting PDP, no story.”

A civil servant, who identified himself as Pamilerin said: ” Oyetola has done well with salaries of payment, I won’t say more.”

However, despite the mood around the youth in Osogbo, Governor Oyetola is confident of winning the Saturday governorship election having toured the 30 Local Governments including the area office, and secured the support of traditional rulers.

Omipidan who is a member of the campaign committee and Chief Press Secretary to the governor said God has been supporting the course of Oyetola because the governor has relied on God, saying “with the show of love received during the campaign, our victory is sure.

Oyetola concluded the campaign tour on Friday when he visited Ife South Local Government to seek reelection from the people.

Omipidan said, “any political observer would know that the governor received overwhelming welcome in all the 30 Local Governments with prayers and adoption by traditional rulers.”

He noted that some traditional rulers in the West Senatorial District had endorsed Oyetola after which the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdur-Rasheed Akanbi, organized a prayer and promised total support for the governor.

Omipidan said the governor was recently endorsed by over 20,000 students and that was a pointer to the fact that the people of the state have resolved to reelect Oyetola for a second term. CONTINUE READING……….
