‘Police boss changing shooting narrative’ – Says Osun Journalist shot by Policeman

Osun State correspondent of the Nation Newspaper Toba Adedeji has berated the Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode, for his claims that he was not shot during a protest on May 31.

Olokode, while on a radio programme yesterday, claimed that Adedeji told him he sustained injury from a metal scratch.

But Adedeji said: “I want to state it emphatically that CP Olokode lied. It is so unfortunate that such lie is coming from a senior police officer because we never had such discussion. I told him I was shot at the scene by policemen led by Akinloye Oyegade, DPO of Dugbe police station.

“In fact, he was trying to change the narrative as he told me that the police and hoodlums had a gun battle at the scene, but I refuted the claim, saying there was no confrontation with the protesters that warranted the shooting. He said nothing more till he left my house that day.

“I also want to state it clearly that while I was receiving treatment at the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital in Osogbo, CP Olokode called some of my colleagues to appeal that we kill the story, saying he was wrongly briefed over the matter. And as far as my treatment is concerned, I told them at the hospital it was a gunshot injury.”

He demanded that that police leadership should provide those officers who fired the shot and Olokode apologise for the lies.

“It is also funny that strange faces have been trailing me to the hospital for treatment and I called the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to check the threat.” CONTINUE READING…
