2022 Gubernatorial: 9 LGAs proned to vote buying identified in Osun

Ahead of the July 16th, 2022 Gubernatorial election, nine Local government Areas proned to vote buying had been identified in Osun state.

A civil society in the State, Crownrise Development Initiative, raised alarm that vote buying may mar the governorship election.

The organization made the results of its finding public on Monday during a virtual stakeholders engagement.

The Executive Director of Crownrise Development Initiative, Adetunji Ajala during the public presentation of the report recalled the impact of the ugly phenomenon of vote buying and selling in Nigeria.

He reported that such occurrence has become a worrisome feature in every election in Nigeria with political gladiators adopting different strategies to Vote trading .

According to him, he said the democracy adopted in Nigeria is believed to be that which is hinged on the will of majority as it is believed that the voices of people should be heard without any undue influences or manipulation during the time of Election.

The report painted that the different intervention by Independent National Electoral Commission of recent has no tangible clear cut plan in ending the menace of VOTE TRADING with the power given to her.

The Independent National Electoral Commission was called upon to do more in prosecuting any offenders caught in the act of vote trading as this will help future election.

According to the report presented by the Non governmental organization, Crownrise Development Initiative, the report highlighted various challenges of the causes of Vote buying, the major actor of vote buying and recommendations to follow towards putting an end to Vote trading.

“However, nine local government were identified as hot spot zone for Vote trading for the forth coming 2022 election which are;
1. Ife North,
2. Iwo,
3. Boripe,
4. Ede North,
5. Ede south,
6. Ilesa east,
7. Oriade,
8. Osogbo And
9. Orolu.”
