……Urges Party Unity
President Muhammadu Buhari has walked out of the venue of the ongoing convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The president departed moments after delivering his speech at the keen contest.
At least seven aspirants stepped down for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the APC, at the convention.
Before his departure, Buhari told the party members to remain united and avoid acrimony.
He said the critical task ahead of the Abdullahi Adamu-led National Working Committee (NWC) ”remains to continue to forge the unity of purpose among party members and to keep securing needed compromises in the interest of the party.”
He also said the party needed to choose a leadership to continue and improve on the landmarks.
The President said the flag bearer must be knowledgeable, fair-minded nationalist with a very strong belief in the unity of the country and strength of character and purpose to steer the country forward.
He congratulated those who had emerged party flag bearers, so far, for the 2023 general elections and urged them to be magnanimous in victory, particularly towards fellow aspirants who conceded to them.
Buhari, who who also urged them at all times to abide by the party rules and follow party reconciliation processes, equally implored the aspirants who lost or conceded at the primaries to maintain the spirit of sportsmanship and to stand by the party for the next challenges ahead.
On governance issues and how his administration has steered the ship of state in the last seven years, the President said the APC government in spite of inheriting a nearly dead economy, has made substantial progress in implementing reforms, providing infrastructure and social care and redeeming Nigeria’s image in the international community.
