Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, on Wednesday in Katsina, promised to restore unity in Nigeria, if elected the country’s president in 2023.
Atiku gave the assurance while addressing delegates and leaders of the Katsina State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party at the party’s secretariat in Katsina.
The former Vice President observed that the Nigeria unity, which formed the basis of forming the PDP and which made the party to maintain the unity among various ethnic groups that make up Nigeria, had been eroded by the All Progressives Congress.
He, however, told the PDP members that if elected as Nigeria’s president, he would restore the unity and correct all the ills that the APC had inflicted the country with.
Atiku said it was his concern for the unity of Nigeria that made many of his admirers referred to him as ‘Mr. UNIFIER.’
He said, “I will ensure that every part of Nigeria has a sense of belonging.”
He also promised to restore law and order and ensure that Nigerians feel safe in any part of the country they find themselves.
The former Vice President said he had never doubted the support of Katsina people for his political ambition, revealing that they (people of Katsina) initiated him into politics.
He said, “They said they won the election in 2019 and pushed me out but here, this state (Katsina) is one of the states I won in the presidential election. The PDP won but the APC stole our votes in Kano, Katsina, Yobe and Borno and said they had won. How could they win?”
Citing the current strike by the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities as an example of the bad leadership of the APC, he promised to return the lost glory of Nigeria, especially in the education and security sectors if he was elected Nigeria President.
The former VP declared, “I have primary school, secondary school and University and never for once have they gone on strike.”
Katsina State former Governor, Shehu Shema, in his remarks, also called for the unity of the country, insisting that if Nigerians were united, there would be progress.
Shema said the PDP was the only party that could bring back unity to Nigeria.
The former governor enjoined the APC members wishing to join the PDP not to hesitate to do so, assuring them that they were welcome anytime.
