Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have killed one Sylvester Ntefre, a notable chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State.
His death comes a few days after a Catholic priest abducted in the state was released after spending four days in the kidnappers’ den.
Ntefre was killed on Sunday at his residence in Ekparakwa, OrukAnam LGA after a failed attempt to abduct him.
According to an eyewitness, Mrs Sarah Williamson, the gunmen arrived at the residence of Ntefre in a black jeep, dragged the deceased outside while other members of the gang were shooting to scare neighbours.
She said the sporadic gunshots by the armed men attracted the attention of the youths who raised the alarm against the gunmen, forcing the whole community to chase them.
When the youths started to chase them, the gunmen took Ntefre to a nearby bush and escaped through the bush.
“The community people came out and rolled the jeep away from that place after the gunmen ran away leaving the car behind,” she said.
However, SP Odiko Macdon, the PPRO of Akwa Ibom Police Command said he was yet to receive an official report on the incident.
“We have not received any information concerning that. However, I will react when the command receives such information” he said. CONTINUE READING…….
