An Ekiti high court situated in Ado-ekiti, Ekiti state has sentenced a 42-yr-old Stephen Omoniyi to death by hanging for killing a monarch.
Stephen was charged with killing of Oba Gbadebo Ibitoye Olowoselu II, the Onise of Odo-oro Ekiti.
One of the chieftains who testified In court said “In August 2018 at Odo-oro in Ikole Ekiti, Around 7am We were at the palace for Council meeting, Omoniyi Ademola Stephen entered the palace and sat on Kabiyesi’s seat but the chiefs frown at this and chase him away.
“But after the meeting, the late Onise in the presence of his male clerk, we’re trekking back to the main palace when Ademola came out of hiding and attacked Kabiyesi with a knife, stabbing him to death, but before then he has been calling himself the king ” the chief said.
The state counsel Adegboyega Morakinyo, called five witnesses and submitted a medical report, the convict statement, and some evidence (a knife, a rope among other exhibits).
Omoniye spoke through his counsel Tope Amr Salami and have no witness, then Justice Olukayode Ogundina sentenced him to death by hanging. CONTINUE READING…
