A UNIZIK graduate, Miss Precious Chinanu Chukwu has emerged the best serving corps member of the year in Rivers State. The award was presented to her by His Excellency, The Executive Governor of Rivers State, Chief Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike ably represented by the Permanent Secretary, Special Services Bureau, Governor’s Office, Sir. Dr. George Nwaeke, Mni on Thursday, during the passing out ceremony held at Isaac Boro park, Port Harcourt, Rivers State for her relentless effort in her service year to improve the standard of living of children, women, youths and the entire populace of her place of primary assignment.
Miss Precious Chinanu Chukwu hails from Umunze in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State and attended the prestigious Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, where she bagged her Bsc in Human Physiology in the year 2019.
In her service year, she started Save The Child Network, a foundation which primary aim is to restore dignity to the child and ameliorate the hardship melted on these young ones.
She was posted to Community Secondary School, Koroma in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State (2021 Batch A, Stream 2).
While in her service year, she was an uncompromising patriot. She gave herself to selfless service, undertaking many project that will put smiles on people’s face.
Some of her outstanding CDS are listed below in no particular order of importance:
1.) Miss Precious renovated a four (4) blocks of toilet system and provided two (2) 200 liters of water storage for the flushing of the toilet in line with SDG GOAL 6 and 9 which are CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION and INDUSTRY, INNOVATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE respectively.
2.) Miss Precious constructed directional sign posts for CSS Koroma, Model Primary Health Center, Koroma and Community market in line with SDG GOAL 9 which is INDUSTRY, INNOVATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE.
3.) Miss Precious constructed a book cupboard and donated literature books for the students in line with SDG GOAL 4 which is QUALITY EDUCATION.
4.) Miss Precious fumigated Senator Barry Mpigi’s residence, Elder Monday Mpigi’s residence, corpers’ lodge, Chief Sunday Nsane’s compound, CSS Koroma, Rev. victor Moses and the entire church of St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church, MPHC, Community market, Hon. Levi’s residence, Wakisson nursery and primary school, Koroma and other places to ward off harmful reptiles and sand flies from the community in line with SDG GOAL 3 which is GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING.
5.) Miss Precious organized skill acquisition program for the youths of St. Cyprian Anglican Church in line with SDG GOAL 1, 2, 8, 9 which are NO POVERTY, ZERO HUNGER, DECENT WORK AND ECONOMIC GROWTH AND INDUSTRY and INNOVATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE respectively.
6.) Miss Precious donated literature books for the library in line with SDG GOAL 4 which is QUALITY EDUCATION.
7.) Miss Precious set up an SDG club and taught them SDG’s anthem and health related topics. She taught them quality group reading, interaction on the ability to spell and write well in line with SDG GOAL 3 and 4 which are GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING AND QUALITY EDUCATION respectively.
8.) Miss Precious organized debate competitions on the topic “Farmers are better than teachers” in line with SDG GOAL 10 which is REDUCED INEQUALITY.
9.) Miss Precious taught students on how best to rate and score students during debate competitions in line with SDG GOAL 4 and 10 which are QUALITY EDUCATION and REDUCED INEQUALITY.
10.) Miss Precious volunteered and assisted medical personnel at MPHC Koroma during Maternal and Child Health week in line with SDG GOAL 3 which is GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING.
11.) Miss Precious ran HIV test for pregnant and nursing mothers during the Maternal and Child Health week and volunteered to write the data of the women after HIV testing in line with SDG GOAL 3 which is GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING.
12.) Miss Precious taught students on goal setting and self-esteem in line with SDG GOAL 5 which is GENDER EQUALITY.
13.) Miss Precious dewormed and administered Vit.A supplement to the pupils of Bonka International prenursery, nursery and primary school, Koroma in line with SDG GOAL 3 which is GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING.
14.) Miss Precious taught mothers on good parental upbringing, child sex education, prevention of sudden infant death syndrome and Family Planning in line with SDG GOAL 3 and 11 which are GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING and SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES.
15.) Miss Precious was invited by SDG schedule officer Miss. Ene Audu Ogbu to facilitate SDG training for new corps members and also gave lectures on SDG goals and participated in U-report registration during 2021 batch C stream 1 orientation exercise in line with SDG GOAL 17 which is PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE GOALS.
16.) Miss Precious was also invited by CM Bilqees Lawal, RV/21A/1038 and SDG schedule officer to educate students of Anglican college and Birabi Memorial Grammar school Bori all in Khana LGA on Sexual Health during her personal project in line with SDG GOAL 3 and 17 which are GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING and PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE GOALS.
Miss Precious Chinanu Chukwu, you’ve shown that the African woman is strong and of great value to the society.
This is a call to all University undergraduates to start brainstorming more on what they can offer their society and become transformational change agents in a decaying world of moral integrity.
