Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, the accord governorship candidate, said this during the Association of Veteran Journalists Osun chapter’s “The Front Front” event held at the Osun State Council NUJ Secretariat in Osogbo. He stated that if he must borrow money to pay pensions, he will do so.
“The billions of naira that the previous administration possessed will be properly paid, and I will borrow additional monies, but they will be spent judiciously and not on frivolous budgets,” he added.
He also appealed to residents of Osun State to assist him in his quest with whatever amount, stating that he has never received a dime from anyone before, but if anyone is willing to assist him, he will gladly accept it.
He went on to say that one of the items on his agenda is local government autonomy, claiming that a lot of things need to change in the local government sector, citing the example of River state. He said, becoming a governor requires passing through the local government.
If elected, Ogunbiyi said, the issue of Chinese miners digging the ground in Ijesa in search of gold and leaving it devastated without filling it back will be resolved by issuing licenses to miners, and any illegal activity or action will be punished by the law.
He also urged Osun residents to vote based on credibility rather than moneybags candidates.
