An Osun High Court sitting in Ijebu-Jesa has affirmed Dotun Babayemi as the authentic gubernatorial candidate of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun.
VAM News had reported that Adeleke and Babayemi emerged PDP’s governorship candidates in two parallel primary elections conducted on Tuesday.
A faction of the party led by Mr. Sunday Bisi held its governorship primary at Osogbo City Stadium, while Wale Ojo-led faction held another primary at WOCDIF Centre, Osogbo.
Announcing the result held at WOCDIF Centre, Osogbo, the returning officer, Adelani Ajanaku, said accredited voters were 1,907, while 27 votes were voided.
Ajanaku further said Omirin got 16 votes; Ogunbiyi scored 23; Akinbade -28, Dele Adeleke -32, while Babayemi got 1,781 to emerge the winner.
The party held parallel primaries on Tuesday leading to the emergence of Dotun Babayemi and Senator Ademola Adeleke.
A suit No:HIJ/6/2022, was instituted by Adedokun Ademola and 29 others against the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).
Presided over by Justice Adeyinka Aderibigbe, the Court in an Order of Mandatory Interim Injunction, averred that delegates that voted for Babayemi did so in compliance with the Court judgement of 22nd November 2021 and Order of Mandatory Interim Injunction of 3rd March 2022, affirming the 215 Wards Executive Officers elected then as the authentic and authorized Ward Executive Officers permitted to vote as delegates at the party governorship primaries.
Besides, the Court granted an Order of Mandatory Interim Injunction restraining the defendants/respondents from recognizing any other governorship primaries of the PDP in Osun State aside from the one that saw to the emergence of Babayemi.
The Court through an Order of Mandatory Interim Injunction has nullified all actions taken in flagrant disobedience to the judgement of,22nd November 2021, which recognized the Ward Executive Officers who produced delegates for the primaries.
Recalled that the Peoples Democratic Party has presented the Certificate of Return to the winner of the Osun Primary elections, Senator Ademola Adeleke.
The presentation took place at the National Executive Council Hall of the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja on Thursday.
Announcing the result of the primary held at Osogbo City Stadium, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewurujakpo, who was the chairman of the governorship primary, said Adeleke garnered 1, 887 votes to emerge victorious, while Fatai Akinbade, Akin Ogunbiyi and Babayemi recorded no vote. Mr. Sanya Ominrin got four votes.
This is as the PDP’s National Working Committee shunned Dotun Babayemi who also emerged as a governorship candidate in one of the parallel primaries held in the state.
