OAU Student Death: NANS Blames The Hostel’s Owner, Seeks For Justice And Demands Full Compensation

The demise of a Federal university student, OAU Campus, has  caught the attention of a student forum, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). However, the president of the association has spoken for other students, expressing their heartbreaks, mourned the victim’s family and seeked for justice in a short memo.

Heritage Ajibola Ayomikun, a 200-level student in the Department of Linguistics and African Languages at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, died on Wednesday after falling into a septic tank in a private hostel near the university campus, according to the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

“The idea that Heritage’s death could have been avoided if the Hostel’s owners had properly constructed and maintained the septic tank in such a way that it would not expose inhabitants and passersbys to the type of disaster that has cost the life of our innocent colleague is extremely sad”. The association president said.

In the statement, NANs expresses its heartfelt condolences to Heritage Ajibola’s immediate family, the Students’ Union, and the Obafemi Awolowo University administration over this unfortunate occurrence.

“As a result, we have come to the conclusion that the owners of the Hostel are responsible for Heritage’s death, and we are hereby demanding a full investigation into this tragic incident, as well as full compensation for Heritage’s family, despite the fact that no amount of money can replace the precious life of their lost daughter”.

Very disheartening is the fact, that Heritage’s death was avoidable if the owners of the Hostel, have properly constructed and maintained the septic tank, in such a manner that it will not expose residents and passerbys, to the manner of tragedy, which has claimed the life of our innocent colleague.

It is therefore our conclusion, that the owners of the Hostel must answer for the death of Heritage, as we hereby demand a full scale investigation into this sad incident, while also demanding a full compensation for the family of Heritage, even though no amount of such, can replace the precious life of their lost daughter.
