LAU: Oyo moves to rename LAUTECH

The state Commissioner for Information Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun in the middle flanked by the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Agriculture.

IBADAN – OYO state government on Monday announced its intention to rename the Ladoke University of Technology, Ogbomoso to Ladoke Akintola University (LAU)

This was disclosed during a press briefing by the State Attorney General and Commissioner For Justice Professor Oyelowo Oyewo shortly after the weekly Executive Council meeting.

The change in the nomenclature of the institution he said is to allow it transform into a conventional university where courses in the social sciences, Education , management and law amonget others will be introunced.

According to him, the law establishing the university will be amended as the Ladoke Akintola University Amendment law 2022 which will be forwarded to the state House of Assembly for ratification.

He explained that the development will also allow the management of the institution to establish it’s pension scheme and will be backed by law.

Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Education , Abdulrahem Abdulraman said the change in the nomenclature of LAUTECH will showcase the institution as a conventional university and will open doors for secondary school leavers In the state to gain admission to study courses in other fields of human endeavours and not technical courses alone.
