The newly-deployed Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Mr Oyediran Oyeyemi, has officially resumed office on Monday, promising to work with other security agencies in fighting insecurity in the state.
The CP said the command would work with recognised security agencies and other stakeholders in the state within the ambit of the law.
Speaking in his office at Alagbaka area of Akure, the state capital, Oyediran declared that he was in the state to ensure the people of the state sleep with their two eyes closed.
He said the human rights abuses being allegedly perpetrated by some officers won’t be tolerated in his command.
He however noted that such incidents have dwindled drastically.
He promised to continue to train and retrain the men and officers of the command from time to time in order to stamp out such incidents.
The commissioner said, “Giving human rights abuses by our officers a critical look, you would obverse that the rate is on the decrease. But we will continue to lecture and retrain them till this becomes a thing of the past.”
He called on the people of the state to avail the police and all appropriate security agencies information on suspicious movements in their areas for immediate intervention.
“We need the support of everyone in the state to fight crime. I assure you that you will sleep with both eyes closed.
I am ready to work with all stakeholders that will make Ondo State safe. We are ready to work with other security agencies under the law,” he said.
