After Nine Months, Group Calls Out Oyetola Over Incomplete Olaiya Flyover Bridge

Nine months after, the Transparency and Accountability Group (TAG) has called out the Osun State Government, under the leadership of Governor Gboyega Oyetola for its inability to deliver the Olaiya overhead Bridge at the time promised to the good people of the state.

It should be recalled that the construction of a flyover at the Olaiya intersection, despite the myriad of issues already raised on the project was promised to be delivered in nine months which expired yesterday.

The project was flagged off on the 18th of February 2021 by the Governor of the state.

The project, a 625 metre bridge at the cost of Three billion, eight Million, one hundred and seventy nine thousand eight hundred and twenty nine naira ammounting to two billion, seven hundred million net of all taxes was awarded to Messrs Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Limited at four span of 15 metres each with two underpass bays for U – turning to Fakunle)Justrite and MDS/post office.

In a statement titled “Olaiya Bridge and the issues”, obtained by VAM News, part of the statement reads; while we acknowledge government’s capacity to do and undo, with functionaries always thinking they are above the law, we state unequivocally that we will not relent in our efforts to make the Osun State government answer to the allegations of violation of the State’s procurement law on the project.

TAG also must put on record the difficulty the project ourhas brought upon the people of the state with attending casualties while the project lasts.
We demand a speedy completion of the project bearing in mind that the yuletide is almost here when the volume of traffic in the state capital is expected to rise and hence the road passing through Olaiya becomes most needed.

In our pursuit of transparency, accountability and probity in government, we wish to state categorically, that the State’s past must be carefully reviewed, to give proper guidance to the future and this will only be achievable if the State Government is not found covering up the excesses of the immediate past administration.

We recognize how tempting it is for actors in this government to assume we are being sponsored by opposition elements. While we owe no explanation for our motivation, we only will say that we have taken this assignment upon ourselves, seeing as opposition parties often lack the capacity for decorous engagements, as we see today in Osun. We will not leave the State’s people in the hands of a government that will not act right and an opposition that is irredeemably dysfunctional.

TAG remains committed to the tenets of Accountability, probity and transparency in governance.

Thank you.
