Bauchi: Five die, three injured in fresh auto crash

A fatal crash on Thursday night at Gubi village, along Bauchi-Kano highway, Bauchi State, had reportedly left five people dead while three others sustained varying degrees of injury.

This is coming barely 24 hours after five people were burnt in a fatal crash on Wednesday afternoon at Nabardo village along Bauchi-Toro-Jos highway.

The state Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Yusuf Abdullahi, who confirmed the latest incident to our correspondent, said the crash involved a vehicle and a tricycle, adding that 18 male adults were involved in the incident.

He said, “There was a fatal crash on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at about 7.42pm, at Gubi village, along Bauchi-Kano road. The crash involved a Volkswagen Sharon commercial vehicle with the number plate, KLW 641 ZA and a tricycle (Keke NAPEP) with the number plate, BAU 01 WL. The crash was caused by overloading and speed violation. When we got a call, our men immediately rushed there within 14 minutes for a rescue operation.

“They evacuated the victims to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi for treatment. On reaching there, a medical doctor confirmed five people dead. Three others sustained varying degrees of injury.”

Abdullahi appealed to motorists to avoid practices that endanger their lives and those of other road users. He said, “We will not relent in calling on them. We are in the ember months and there is a high volume of vehicles on the road. We enjoin them to drive at reasonable speed limits.”
