Fuel scarcity grounds economic activities in Jalingo as motorists lament

Economic and social activities in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital have been grossly affected following the scarcity of fuel that hit Jalingo, in the past few days.

Motorists and tricycle operators who spoke to our correspondent said they have been forced to queue for hours at the NNPC Mega station along Yola road to get petrol and this has caused gridlock along the major road in the town.

A tricycle rider, Abubakar Umar who said he was on queue since 7 am when our correspondent visited the area around noon said meeting his daily target of N3000 was no longer feasible as a result of the fuel crisis.

Checks by our correspondent on Wednesday revealed that only NNPC and A. A Shafa filling station was dispensing the product in the state capital, causing long queues while black marketers take advantage of the situation.

Further checks by our correspondent revealed that a litre of petrol at the black market is sold for N250 as against N162 in the filling stations.
A restaurant manager, Joy Adi told our correspondent on the phone that many people who patronise them for lunch could not make it as a result of the lack of petrol in the town.

Moreso, a motorist, Musa Yohanna while lamenting the hardship called on relevant bodies to find a solution to the fuel scarcity which he said usually happened between November and December each year.
