Newspaper Headlines: Families throng Yaba hospital to identity victims of collapsed Ikoyi building


The victory of Chukwuma Soludo, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, in 18 out of the 20 LGAs announced so far in the Anambra governorship election and the declaration of a supplementary election in one LGA appeared on the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

 

 

The Nation reports that Soludo is coasting home to victory in the Anambra governorship election. The newspaper says families of victims of collapsed Ikoyi building have besieged the infectious diseases hospital, Yaba to claim the remains of their loved ones.

The Punch reports that Soludo is on track to win the Anambra governorship election. The newspaper says Lagos state recorded zero conviction as 213 people died of building collapse in seven years.

Daily Independent says the federal government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) are currently perfecting the move to devalue the naira. The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has asked the court to stop President Muhammadu Buhari from using N26 billion for travels and meals as proposed in the 2022 budget.

Daily Trust reports that customs officers are extorting motorists on the country’s highways. The Nigerian Union of Teachers said 800 teachers were killed in the insurgency in the north-east, the newspaper says.
