COVID: Ogun Issues 60-Day Ultimatum For Residents To Get Vaccinated

The Ogun State Government has issued a 60-day ultimatum to residents who are yet to receive the COVID-19 vaccine to do so or risk being barred from government offices, schools, marketplaces, and public transport.

The State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, said this on Monday, at the flag-off of COVID-19 mass vaccination campaign, held at the Arcade Ground, Governor’s Office, Abeokuta.

He said the 60-day window would give residents that are yet to receive the vaccine to do so as part of the government’s effort to flatten the curve of the virus.

“We are going to give a window to allow for this vaccination exercise and that window starts from today till the next 60 days. Anybody after sixty days that are not vaccinated will not be allowed in our offices, schools. Such a person will not be allowed to do business with us. We will chase this person in our markets, you will be required to carry your vaccine cards with you at all time.

“This is my vaccination card (waving it to the audience) for all those who want to see. If you don’t have a card like this, you will not come to our secretariat, we will not do business with you, we will not allow ‘Okada’ to carry you, we will not allow taxis to carry you, you will not be allowed in our markets. We will enforce this card. To be forewarned is to be forearmed,” he added.

The governor said the state targets vaccination of additional 2million residents in the mass vaccination exercise while saying that the number of vaccine centres had been increased from 131 to 509.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, said the state recorded 5,370 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 80 causalities.

While the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Faisal Shuaib disclosed that the Federal government is targeting the vaccination of 50 percent eligible population of Nigerians by the end of January 2022.
