Tragedy As 5 Students Die In Kano Auto Crash, 13 Hospitalised

The National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) has ordered a 3three-day mourning over the demise of the late students union leaders.

“We received the news of the demise of five our students from Kano axis of NANS, majority of who are students of Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, Kumbotso, following a ghastly motor accident while on their way to Katsina to attend a function.

“Man cannot question the act of God Almighty, October 28 remain a day to remember, as such, NANS zone A under the leadership of Comrade Adamu Kichinga declare a three-day mourning” the Public Relations Officer NANS Zone A, said in a statement on Thursday.

Below is the press statement sent to VAM News by the National Media and publicity of NANS National;

THE SUDDEN DEPARTURE OF FOUR STUDENTS LEADERS ALONG KANO-KATSINA ROAD: NANS CONDOLE WITH FAMILIES, NANS ZONE A, SA’ADATU RIMI COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND GOVERNMENT OF KANO STATE.

I have regrettably received the preliminary report of the fatal auto crash along Kano-Katsina road that claimed the lives of four of our comrades, the students of Sa’Adatu Rimi College of Education. Unfortunately the Students Union President of the College also died in the auto crash on their way to Zonal assignment.

This is indeed a dark Thursday for NANS and students activism in Nigeria, I and the entire leadership of NANS therefore send our heartfelt condolences to the families of the departed student leaders, the Sa’Adatu Rimi College of Education, the government and the people of Kano State for this monumental loss.

It is therefore imperative that government at all levels must ensure that our roads are in good conditions and necessary precautions are installed on the roads to forestall future occurrences.

I am by this release, declaring that special prayers should be offered for the repose of the departed in all NANS events nationally for the next one week. I will also lead a delegation of the National Leadership to Kano State to condole with the Families, College and Government of Kano State.

While awaiting the comprehensive report on the incident, I therefore call on all our comrades across the nation to continue to pray for the repose of the departed and draw inspiration from their sacrifice to ensure that student’s rights are protected always.

This is a sad day for all of us and we pray that God grant their families the fortitude to bear this monumental loss.
