Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment, has lamented that he and other Nigerian elites are in danger.
Ngige said this is due to the level of insecurity in the country.
The minister made the remark while urging employers of labour to provide decent jobs for workers in the country or face severe consequences.
Ngige, in a statement signed by Charles Akpan, the Deputy Director, Press and Public Relations in the ministry, said lack of jobs was responsible for the high rate of insecurity in the country.
According to NAN, the statement said Ngige spoke at a meeting with leaders of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, and the National Pension Commission, PENCOM.
Ngige appealed to employers of labour and Labour unions to pay greater attention to providing formal and regular jobs.
According to Ngige: “So, the elites in Nigeria are in danger, including me and all of us.
“Hence, the sooner we start talking to elites in organisations like yours (IPMAN), the better. So, we can curb this malady and prevent it from escalating.
“When you refer to the nexus between job vulnerability and insecurity, you hit the nail on the head.
“A lot of insecurity problems we have today is caused by unemployment and underemployment.”
