Seven traditional rulers in Ekiti State, who led their subjects on Wednesday, to protest against the siting of the headquarters of the Ikole West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Ijesa-Isu Ekiti, met the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Olawale Fapohunda, on Thursday.
The seven aggrieved monarchs are the Olusin of Usin Ekiti, Oba Adedeji Oluyemi; Asaba of Isaba Ekiti, Oba Olanrewaju Adeyanju; Olotunja of Ootunja-Ekiti, Oba Adedeji Fagbamila; Alasin of Asin Ekiti, Oba Abraham Babalola; Obaloke of Igbona Ekiti, Oba Oladele Adeyemi; Alamo of Ilamo Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Awoseyila; and Onikoyi of Ikoyi Ekiti, Oba Julius Falaki.
Their grouse at the protest, which they also presented during the meeting which was at the instance of the AG, who is also the chairman of the LCDA Implementation Committee, was that the seven communities among the eight towns that made up the new LCDA wanted the headquarters relocated from Ijesa Isu to Asin Ekiti.
The seven traditional rulers led prominent sons of the communities to the peace talks, just as the Ijesa-Isu-Ekiti team was led by their traditional ruler, the Obanla of Ijesa Isu Ekiti, Oba Adeniyi Oso.
Fapohunda, in his address to the two sides, urged the aggrieved communities to maintain peace, appealing to them to cooperate with Ijesa-Isu-Ekiti, while calling for caution.
He said, “The state government is currently looking into the issue and will do justice. Fix a date to meet Governor Kayode Fayemi for final solution.”
The spokesperson for the seven aggrieved communities, Dr Lanre Ayejuyo, said, “It will be absurd for the communities to accept Ijesa-Isu Ekiti as the LCDA headquarters.
“The government must look into the matter for peaceful co-existence. We can stand on our own, we can stand as autonomous LCDA instead of merging us with Ijesa-Isu Ekiti.”
However, the Ijesa-Isu Ekiti monarch, Oba Oso, urged the seven communities to accept the government decision.
