Ekiti State Government has resumed the payment of consequential adjustment of the minimum wage to civil servants on Grade Level 7 to 12.
Information Commissioner Akin Omole, who made this known in a statement yesterday, said the decision was reached at the Economic Review Meeting held last month, following holistic review of the state’s revenue.
The government also restored payment of 100 per cent subvention to Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital and increased subvention to Ekiti State University as well as Bamidele Olumilua University of Education and Technology, from 50 to 60 per cent.
The government in June suspended consequential adjustment and reduced subventions to state-owned institutions as a result of dwindling revenue accruing to the state.
According to the statement, 25 per cent reduction in the salary of political office holders, including permanent secretaries and executive secretaries was still in place.
“Ekiti State Government wishes to inform the public about some far-reaching decisions taken at the August edition of the Economic Review Committee meeting. Sequel to the agreement with the leadership of the Organised Labour in June, an Economic Review Committee (ERC) was designed to meet monthly (five days after Federation Accounts Allocation Committee-FAAC release) and keep Labour abreast of the financial position of the state and actions to be taken.
“Restoration of the Consequential Adjustment of the Minimum Wage for officers on grade levels 7 and 8, which was hitherto put on hold due to shortfall in revenue from FAAC, occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic to be implemented in August, while the arrears will be paid in September.
“Restoration of Consequential Adjustment of the Minimum Wage of officers on Grade levels 9 to 12, which was hitherto put on hold due to shortfall in revenue from FAAC occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic to be implemented in September.
“Subvention to Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU) and Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI) has increased from 50 per cent to 60 per cent and will be reviewed upwards in September.”
Omole hailed the labour leaders for their sacrifice “to navigate this period of financial challenges”, adding that the welfare of workers remains the Governor Kayode Fayemi administration’s priority.
