FG resumes cash transfer in three states

The Federal Government has resumed payment to beneficiaries of Household Uplifting Programme (HUP) under the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) Scheme.

The HUP-CCT is managed by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development led by Sadiya Umar Farouq.

The Focal Person, National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) in Akwa Ibom, Godwin Akpan, said disbursements have been made in Ukanafun and Oruk Anam Local Government Areas.

The beneficiaries in Nsit Atai, Ikono and Uruan LGAs will also be paid through their accounts. Each beneficiary gets N20,000.

The official added that the arrangement for the poor was part of efforts to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty by 2030.

In Lagos, Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Yetunde Arobieke said 6,810 persons/households had benefited from the CCT since inception.

The State Focal Person said the transfer of N5,000 per month to beneficiaries is paid every two months.

The payment is for eligible households selected from the National Social Register, the commissioner noted.

”A total of 6,810 beneficiaries from six targeted LGAs (Apapa, Amuwo-Odofin, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos Island and Badagry) have been benefitting”, she added.

In Ogun, Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Femi Ogunbanwo flagged off the programme at Odeda LGA.

He announced that a total of 9,593 people in the state would be covered.

The beneficiaries were drawn from six local governments across the three senatorial districts.

Ogunbanwo said the pilot programme began in October 2020 with enrolment and data capturing activities.

The commissioner added that cards were issued to the beneficiaries to serve as a means of identification and eligibility for payment.
