Makinde Orders Evacuation Of Oyo Students From UNIJOS

 

 

 

VAM news has gathered that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has ordered the evacuation of the state’s indigenous students from the University of Jos.

 

 

Recalls that about 20 people, who were coming from an Islamic programme at Bauchi, were recently killed by some youths around Rukuba area of Jos.

 

 

The university, in a bid to avoid casualties among the students, suspended the ongoing examination in the institution.

 

 

Deputy Registrar, Information and Publications of the institution, Mr. Abdullahi Abdullahi in a statement obtained by DAILY POST advised students and staff to remain calm and be mindful of their safety.

 

 

It was also gathered that the acting Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Gray Goziem Ejikeme, had earlier visited some of the students in their hostels.

Ejikeme, along with the Dean of Students Affairs and the HOD of Remedial Sciences, was in the hostels a few days ago to attend to the needs of the students.

 

 

It was however gathered that some students of the institution have been killed since the massacre of the 20 travellers.

 

It was learnt that the killing of the students made some state governors order the evacuation of their kinsmen in the institution.

 

 

DAILY POST learnt that Abia, Enugu and Ogun, among other states, have evacuated their indigenes from Jos.

 

 

Our correspondent however gathered that Makinde has also mandated his aides to evacuate Oyo State students in the institution.

 

 

Special Assistant to Makinde on Students Matters, Victor Olojede, confirmed the evacuation to DAILY POST on Tuesday.

 

 

Olojede told this medium that he and over 80 Oyo State indigenes evacuated were on their way to Ibadan.

“Yes. I am on my way to Ibadan.

 

 

“We have evacuated Oyo State indigenes in UNIJOS.
