Armed men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, on Tuesday night, launched an attack on Chando-Zirechi village in Bassa LGA of Plateau State.
The herdsmen, VAM News learnt, carried out the attack despite a curfew put in place by the Plateau State Government on the Local Government Area.
During the deadly attack, it was learnt that the gunmen shot 5 persons dead.
The Secretary General of the Irigwe Development Association, Comrade Danjuma Dickson Auta, confirmed the killing to Journalists on Wednesday. He however, said that apart from the 5 persons killed, another person was slaughtered by the herdsmen bringing the number of slain persons to 6.
He said, “As the Irigwe nation continue to receive attacks from left right and centre, over the unfortunate incident at Rukuba road, where innocent commuters which the Irigwe nation knows nothing about and we have continue to distance ourselves from the ungodly act as peace loving citizens.”
“Yet, last night, August 17, 2021, one of our villages, Chando-Zrrechi (Tafi-Gana), was attacked last night by Fulani Herdsmen.”
“5 people confirmed dead so far at Tafi Gana village of Miango District Irigwe Chiefdom. This is apart from another son of Irigwe killed at Dong village of Jos North LGA, in the evening of 16th August 2021, despite the 24 hour curfew imposed on the council.”
“If nothing is done to avert this ugly trend, Irigwe people will be wiped out. We see this as ethnic cleansing, “he decried.
He appealed to the Plateau State Government to deploy security forces in the area to put an end to the killings, which he said was becoming very rampant in the community.
