Osun Council Of Obas Sympathises With Flood Victims

The Osun State Council of Obas has viewed with great concern the recent flood disasters in the state occasioned by incessant rains.

The traditional rulers said they felt deeply disturbed by such a natural disaster which brought, in its wake, loss of lives and valuables estimated at millions of naira.

In another development, the traditional rulers called on people to continue to make the observance of COVID-19 protocols part of their day to day activities either at home or in public.

At the council meeting on Friday in Osogbo, the state capital, the Deputy Chairman of the Osun State Council of Obas, who is also the Timi of Ede land, on behalf of the State Chairman of the Council, Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja the second, particularly identified with the governor, Gboyega Oyetola and all those who in one way or the other got affected by the unfortunate development of the ceaseless rains on Tuesday night.

The traditional rulers, who also noted that the majority of those affected by the monumental losses were the residents of Osogbo, viewed it as a collective loss for the entire people of the state of Osun.

The council advised residents to always desist from the bad habit of dumping refuse indiscriminately into drainages, streams, rivers and other waterways.

The Council of Obas, while also sympathizing with the governor, however, implored residents to always imbibe virtues of cleanliness and Godliness as the rains are here.

“Continue to use your face masks, avoid milking around in a crowded environment and make the use of hand sanitisers a regular habit among other well spelt out rules by NCDC to fight the deadly coronavirus,” it said.

DAILY POST had reported that the heavy downpour, which started around 8pm on Tuesday, sacked some residents from their houses and destroyed some goods and properties worth millions of naira across the state capital.

At least two corpses were found on Wednesday as the perimeter fence of the Osun State Government House in Oke-fia was damaged by the heavy downpour that wreaked havoc in Osogbo.
