Gunmen On Rampage Again, Kidnap many Passengers, Kill One in Ekiti

Unknown gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen were said to have ambushed travellers in Ekiti State, killing one person and made away with others.

It was gathered that victims of the latest attack were ambushed late on Friday evening, at a location between Ewu-Ekiti and Ayetoro-Ekiti in Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

The victims were said to have been waylaid after the Fulani herdsmen suddenly came from the bush to stop their vehicles with guns.

According to report, five persons travelling in a Lexus 330 Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) were abducted.

The passengers, who were said to be guests at an occasion in the area we’re returning to their destinations when they were waylaid by some gunmen believed to be Fulani herdsmen.

The identities of the victims had not been ascertained at the time of filing this report.

The abducted five were whisked away to the forest in the area while the SUV with registration number: LAGOS- KRD 264 GV was parked facing the bush without occupants.

The corpse of one of the victims was left in the vehicle.

This incident occurred four days after unknown gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen shot and killed a man named Ademola Afolayan on a poultry farm in Ikere Ekiti.

The incident occurred on Monday evening, August 2, around 5:00 pm.

Sources said the gunmen, numbering about 5, invaded the poultry farm located at Eselemo Farm, Igbooka area via Akure road, shooting sporadically and in the process, killed Ademola Afolayan.

The two persons have narrowly escaped the incident.

On Tuesday, August 3, 2021, the former Ekiti State chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Comrade Clement Adekola, had escaped death after gunmen attacked his vehicle.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Tuesday evening, August 3, around 5:00 pm.

Adekola, an indigene of Ikere Ekiti narrowly escape kidnappers along Ikere – Igbara Odo road, in Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State when gunmen opened fire at his vehicle around 5.00 pm on Tuesday.

On July 14, 2021, VAM News had reported that kidnappers had abducted some travellers in commercial buses along Akure/Ikere-Ado Ekiti road in Ekiti State.

It was gathered that the gunmen were reported to have swooped on the travellers’ vehicles while navigating through the bad portions of the road.

The source gathered that the passengers were in three vehicles and one of the drivers were narrowly escaped the incident.

The incident occurred in between the boundary of Iju in Ondo State and Ikere Ekiti in Ekiti State.

An eyewitness said that the vehicles were left open in the middle of the road, which attracted members of the public to the abandoned vehicle and raised the alarm.
