Odujole Folashade Ola: Court Acquits Ogun Woman Alleged Of American Visa Scam Charge

VAM news has learnt that a magistrate Court in Ota recently freed an Ogun woman, identified as Folashade Ola odujole of an alleged American visa scam charge.

Magistrate Adeyemi Esq. of court 5, Ota in a nine page ruling declared that after a crucial analysis of the charge, the evidence led, the evaluation of the court the defendant was found not guilty and thereby acquitted.

It was recalled that one Micheal Oluwafemi Opaleye who had paid the sum of 100,000 to the Scout Association of Nigeria on behalf of his nephew towards the 2019 world scout jamboree had approached the court that the defendant in collaboration with others had duped him.

The defendant in her defense stated in the court that she only went out of her way to help the complainant by recommending his nephew for the jamboree after the complainant had indicated his desire to have his nephew participate when he met the organisers in her office sometime in 2018.

The scout official in charge in his own testimony at the court stated that the complainant had made a part payment of one hundred thousand naira not 2.4m to the account designated for the purpose only to come back requesting for his refund after his request to be substituted in place of his nephew was turned down on the ground that the programme was for open to eligible scouts age 14-17 years.

He further claimed that the entire Nigerian team were unable to attend the jamboree as a result of the failure to apply for the visa in time.

It was a great relief for the woman who claimed she only helped when he claimed he was going through some challenges.

The defendant was also freed of an allegation of obtaining money under false pretence from the complainant on the pretext of buying a car.

The magistrate in her ruling stated that the defendant did not appropriate any money paid to her for her personal use as exhibit P8,p8b tendered by the prosecutor and even D1 tendered by the defendant proved that she did not appropriate the money for her personal use neither was she dishonest in her dealings with the PW1 Femi Opaleye.

The defendant thank God for the outcome after several adjournments. She also affirmed her believe in the Nigerian judiciary. She advised that people should not succumb to blackmail or fear the court because according to her the “law is impartial”.
