Scores of commercial motorcyclists, also known as Okada riders, plying the Aslahudeen area, ring road, in Osogbo, on Tuesday, blocked the major roads as one of their colleagues was shot by a yet to be identified Mobile police officer in the area.
VAM News gathered that the motorcyclist whose name was identified as Saheed Olabomi was shot by one of the policemen.
The incident which happened around 5pm, has resulted in chaos at the popular oke onitea junction, which escalated to burning of tyres in some areas of Osun state capital as residents scamper for safety.
“There was a gridlock around oke onitea junction and the police officers were coming from Islahudeen area and one of the mobile officers started shooting to scare people away only for him to shot a motorcyclist at the back,” Eyewitness revealed while speaking with correspondent.
Also, the victim of the alleged police shooting was captured on a bike and rushed down to the UniOsun Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, while he is currently on oxygen.
The father of the victim, Adewale Oyedele confirmed the incident.
When contacted, the police Public relations officer in the state, Yemisi Opalola said she will get back to our correspondent.
As at the press time, the police is yet to make officer statement on the incident.
