Saudi Arabian officials have announced that the 2021 Dhul Hijjah will start on Sunday, 11 July, 2021.
By implication, this means that Youm Arafah, which signifies the date Prophet Muhammed gave one of his last sermons on Mount Arafah, would be observed on Monday, 19 July 2021 while Eid al Adha would be celebrated in the holy land on 20 July 2021.
The announcement was made after the moon sighting committees could not locate the crescent moon in the sky Friday evening.
Dhul Hijjah, which happens to be the final month of the Islamic calendar, is used in determining the dates for celebrating Eid al Adha and Youm Arafah.
It is also within this period that Muslims around the world choose to embark on an annual pilgrimage to the Kabba in Mecca.
Although moon sighting dates may vary from time to time, the Saudi Arabian sightings are officially used by Muslims around the world to plan their holiday.
The moon sighting committees in Nigeria and many other countries around the world were reported to have been on the lookout for the moon to commemorate these ten most beautiful days of the Islamic calendar.
However, the differences in moon sightings is an indication that Muslims in different parts of the world may likely celebrate these Islamic events on different days.
Muslims all over the world celebrate Eid al Adha by sacrificing a lamb, cow, or camel and sharing to both their neighbours and the needy.
