The Federal Lawmaker representing Ede, Ejigbo and Egbedore constituency in the federal house of representatives has regarded the issue of acceptance fee in tertiary institutions across Nigeria as oppressive, needless and extortive.
He shared his experience about what he felt about acceptance fee when he first got to know about it. He said he thought the acceptance fee was going to be subtracted from the actual school fee later when paid but he later discovered it was not the way he thought thereby describing it as needless, extortive and oppressive.
The Lawmaker said he was one of those who moved a motion for the eradication of acceptance fee in tertiary institutions and said the house pass a motion for the eradication of the fee, he then noted that a motion (resolution) of the house is just of a persuasive nature unless we can have a law that will outlaw the collection of acceptance fee in our tertiary institutions.
Acceptance Fee is the first fee a student will pay after getting admission to tertiary institutions after which the student will still pay the school fee which is always much more higher than the acceptance fee.
The collection of acceptance fee by tertiary institution is not necessary and should be scrapped, he said.
