Osun lawmaker challenges Oyetola to make public statements of accounts of all LGAs

Osun State House of Assembly minority leader, Hon. Nurudeen Kofoworola Babajide has called on the Osun state governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola to publish the statement of accounts of all local governments in the state.

The lawmaker made the call today in Osogbo, the state capital while addressing the press. He said, “it is not news to the People of Osun State that all 30 local government councils and the area office in the State have been without any recognized headship since February 6, 2021 when the tenure of the elected Parliamentarians expired. This has therefore, affected greatly governance at this level as ‘strangers’ are leading the councils.

“The People of the State are finding it so hard to understand why it is taking eternity for the current State Government under Governor Gboyega Oyetola to constitute Caretaker Committee or even more appropriate, organize council polls as witnessed recently in our neighboring Oyo State.

“As Representative of the People, I call on Governor Gboyega Oyetola to immediately make public statements of accounts of all local government since February 2021. This is important to know how much the councils have expended on personnel costs and how much is left in their respective accounts.

“It should be noted that Oyetola had via a memo froze all the accounts of the Councils on February 5, 2021. This practically put an end to governance in the third tier of Government.

“Since Osun State Government under Oyetola have decided to paralyse the closest governments to the people by assuming the sole controller of their accounts, we call on the federal government to immediately call the Oyetola-led Osun government to order to stop milking the funds that belong to local government.
