Governor’s chief of staff resigns suddenly

Segun Ogunwuyi, Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, has resigned from his position, adding to the growing number of officials leaving the state government.

Ogunwuyi announced his decision in a resignation letter dated October 12, 2026, stating that his departure would take effect immediately.

In the letter, he expressed gratitude to Makinde for the opportunity to serve in the administration and described his time in government as a rewarding experience.

He also commended the governor and other members of the administration for their efforts towards the development of Oyo State, saying he was proud of the work they had carried out together.

Ogunwuyi said he was leaving the position with appreciation for the opportunity to contribute to the state’s progress. He also reaffirmed his commitment to the interests of Oyo State and Nigeria.

His resignation comes amid the continued departure of political appointees from Makinde’s administration in recent months.

Ogunwuyi is a former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives.

Before his resignation, he served as one of the governor’s closest aides, coordinating activities around the governor’s office and supporting the administration’s operations.

The reasons behind Ogunwuyi’s resignation were not disclosed in the letter. He also did not indicate what he intends to do next following his departure from the government.
