Things To Know About NNPC Cheap Fuel

THE Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has announced that only motorists who download its mobile application and make payments digitally can access its N66-per-litre petrol discount.

The new discounted price is ₦1,339 per litre for motorists who download the NNPC mobile app and pay digitally, down from ₦1,405 per litre at the pump.

The company has also extended the discount until October 31, 2026.

The discount was originally scheduled to end on October 7, 2026, after running from October 1 to October 7. NNPC subsequently extended it until October 31, 2026.

The Federal Government also announced more measures to cushion the impact of rising petrol prices on Nigerians.

The first is a 30-day petrol discount at NNPC stations, with priority for public transport operators. The separate N66-per-litre discount has been extended until October 31, 2026.

Second, the government plans to increase crude oil supplies to local refineries to improve domestic fuel production and availability.

Third, it is negotiating a proposed ₦1,350-per-litre ceiling on petrol landing costs to limit sudden price increases.

Fourth, the government plans to work with state authorities to remove illegal road taxes and levies that increase transportation costs.

Fifth, it intends to increase cash transfers to vulnerable households and provide subsidised credit to small businesses and consumers.

Sixth, the government plans to accelerate the rollout of compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles and encourage transport operators to reduce fares where fuel savings allow.

Seventh, it is considering an excess profit tax on energy companies that take undue advantage of the current price situation, with proceeds potentially supporting transport assistance.

Eighth, the government plans to reduce unnecessary regulations and compliance costs that make goods and services more expensive.

Ninth, it intends to establish a National Strategic Fuel Reserve to protect supplies during disruptions and periods of scarcity.

Tenth, the government plans to improve traffic management in major cities and use NIPOST address codes to make deliveries more efficient and reduce logistics costs.
