New Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate Peter Obi says he is prepared to lay down his life in the fight to defend Nigerians’ votes and rescue the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi made the declaration on Thursday during a town hall meeting with supporters in Port Harcourt, urging them to stand firm and not be intimidated.
“Don’t be intimidated,” Obi said. “Somebody said, ‘We are ready to die.’ Let me tell you, I’m equally ready to die. So you’re not alone.”
The former Anambra governor said the central demand for 2027 must be that every vote counts.
“All they want is for you to defend and demand that the vote must count. And that is the demand we are going to make, and make aggressively,” he stated.
While warning that attempts to manipulate the process should be expected, Obi expressed confidence that resistance will be stronger this time.
“Yes, they will try to manipulate it. But let me tell you, it will not be easy this time.”
Obi urged Nigerians to join political campaigns, saying the country can only be rescued through collective action.
“So if your hands are short, go to that campaign, believing that all of us will rescue our country.”
He linked Nigeria’s current hardship to poor leadership and flawed elections.
“By allowing them to continue, that glitch will glitch our life. That’s why we are suffering today. Our refinery is bad because our leadership is bad.
