Eid ul Mawlid: FG Declares Public Holiday

THE Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday in commemoration of this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

The declaration was announced by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement issued on Friday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslims across Nigeria and around the world on the occasion, urging Nigerians to reflect on the values of compassion, humility and service associated with the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.

“Every Eid ul Mawlid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others.

“These are qualities our nation needs now more than ever, and I encourage every Nigerian, not just our Muslim brothers and sisters, to reflect on them,” he said.

The minister also urged Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity and national cohesion, stressing that building and sustaining a united country was a responsibility shared by all citizens.

He appealed to Muslims and other Nigerians celebrating the holiday to do so peacefully, with restraint, tolerance and mutual respect.

Tunji-Ojo further reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property and promoting peace and stability across the country.

The public holiday will provide Muslims and other Nigerians with an opportunity to mark the religious occasion and reflect on its values of peace, compassion, humility and service to humanity.
