THE Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has added the Social Democratic Party, SDP, candidate, Dr Francis Olugbenga Ajala, and his running mate, Faseke Babajimi Oladipo, to the ballot for the Osun State governorship election coming up on Saturday, August 15.
INEC disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.
The commission said the decision followed a judgment delivered by the Federal High Court in Abuja on July 22, 2026.
According to INEC, “the judgment was delivered in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/344/2026, involving the Social Democratic Party and Ajala as plaintiffs against the electoral commission.”
The court, INEC said, ordered it to “forthwith recognise, accept, upload, process and publish Ajala’s name and particulars as the SDP governorship candidate.”
The commission said it had consequently commenced the reproduction of ballot papers for the election to reflect the inclusion of Ajala and Oladipo.
INEC said the development had increased the number of political parties contesting the Osun governorship election from 14 to 15.
It added that the result sheets for the election were also being reproduced alongside the ballot papers to reflect the addition of the SDP candidate.
According to the commission, “the reproduced ballot papers would arrive in Osun State on Thursday, 13 August, before being moved to Local Government Area offices across the state on the same day.”
