Osun: APC, Gov. Adeleke Trade Words Over Fresh Osogbo Killings

THE Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress and Governor Ademola Adeleke have bickered over a fresh killings recorded in Osogbo early on Thursday.

An attack in Osogbo that started late on Wednesday led to the killings of two persons identified as Lateef Olalekan and Waheed Adelodun.

The APC, in a statement by Oluremi Omowaiye, the Head of Media and Publicity of the governorship campaign, said the deceased were members of their party.

Omowaiye alleged that loyalists of Governor Adeleke were behind the attack.

The Campaign Council notes that “the attacks according to an eye witness were led by an appointee of Governor Ademola Adeleke, Nurudeen Alowonle, in conjunction with individuals identified as Esubiyi and Taoreed Ademola (Small Rugged). Both Esubiyi and Small Rugged were on the Order of Governor Adeleke recently released from prisons and have been involved in violent attacks against APC members and supporters in recent days.

“The suspects, according to eyewitness accounts, were seen moving around Osogbo in an 18-seater bus ( Hummer bus), targeting APC members,” Omowaiye said.

The APC called on the Inspector-General of Police, Director-General of the Department of State Services to arrest Alowonle and others mentioned over the incident.

Meanwhile, Governor Adeleke has described the latest violence as cult-related crisis.

The Governor in a statement by Olawale Rasheed, his Spokesperson, debunked alleged government’s involvement in the killings.

“We receive with concern recent suspected cult killing at Osogbo and we call on security agencies to enforce the law and go after the culprits. The killing and the subsequent rampage are condemnable.

“The incidents of cult violence at Osogbo should be curtailed immediately so as not to complicate the delicate security situation after recent political violence in the state. I call on security agencies to investigate and apprehend those involved in this dastardly act”, the governor was quoted as saying.
