Osun: Amotekun Rejects Partisan Allegations, Says It Remains Professional, Apolitical

THE Osun Amotekun Corps has dismissed allegations of partisanship made against it during Friday’s visit of the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to the state, describing the claims as false, malicious, and politically motivated.

In a statement by its spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu, the Corps said certain political actors attempted to portray the agency as a criminal outfit and to question its professionalism and operational integrity.

The Corps described the attempt to label it a criminal organisation as a deliberate effort to undermine one of the most effective community-based security institutions in the state.

The statement noted that since its establishment under Osun State law, Amotekun has operated with professionalism, discipline, and respect for the rule of law.

“Our officers work closely with the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, NSCDC, and other security agencies on intelligence gathering, crime prevention, and emergency response. The results are clear in the fight against kidnapping, armed robbery, illegal mining, cultism, and other crimes across the state,” it added.

The Corps also addressed concerns raised about the operational attire of its personnel, stating that all operations are conducted within approved guidelines and in line with the law.

“At no time has the leadership sanctioned any unlawful practice to deceive the public or impersonate any other security agency,” it stated.

The Corps said it welcomed the IGP’s assurance that the concerns would be reviewed, and expressed confidence that “any fair and evidence-based review will expose these allegations as unsubstantiated claims lacking credible proof.”

It further warned political stakeholders against politicising security institutions.

“Security should never become a tool for partisan contestation. Attempts to politicise security agencies weaken public confidence and embolden criminal elements,” the Corps said.

Reaffirming its mandate, the agency said it remains apolitical and committed to community policing, collaboration with other security agencies, and upholding professionalism, accountability, and human rights.

It urged residents to disregard the allegations and continue supporting the Corps with timely information.

“No amount of politically motivated misinformation will deter us from our constitutional mandate,” the statement concluded.
