World cup 2026: South Africa Join Morocco In Knockout Qualification

THE Bafana Bafana of South Africa defeated South Korea 1-o in their final group game to snatch their first-ever qualification for the knockout stage of the World Cup.

Thapelo Maseko’s 63rd-minute goal stunned Korea at the Estadio Monterrey in Guadalupe, Mexico, to earn South Africa a second-place finish in Group A.

South Africa successfully turned around their poor 2-0 loss to Mexico on the opening day of the 2026 World Cup to achieve what Hugo Broos, the team’s head coach, called “shutting up big mouths”.

Morocco finished second in the group with seven points, with goal difference separating them and Brazil. Two goals from Vinicius Jr and another from Matteus Cunha gave Brazil a 3-0 win over Scotland in the other group game.
